Foster Care Awareness Month

Hey Guys! Hope you're having a great start to your week! May is Foster Care Awareness Month and we don't want to shy away from that. This is a month dedicated solely to Foster Care and bringing awareness to it.

To start, for those of you who do foster care - from the bottom of our hearts - THANK YOU! You are truly heroes in today's world. To love a child with everything you have for as long or as short as you have them is a HUGE deal and should not go unnoticed or underappreciated. So thank you.

How can you help?

  1. For those of you who do not just foster, and maybe for some of you who do, you can change your mindset. What do we mean by that? As much as we want to adopt some of these children, the best thing for them is to reunify. So, for those who don't just foster, change you mindset to this: Foster care is a support to families, not a substitute for parents. This is extremely hard, I must admit, but it's the truth.

  2. Share facts on your social media accounts and hashtag #FosterCareMonth. That way your friends, family, and co-worker's can see your post, then click on the hashtag to see more about what Foster Care is all about.

  3. If you haven't signed up yet, it's probably not too late. Jason Johnson, a foster care expert, has a one-moth "journey" specifically for foster dads. It's called just that, "For Foster Dads". Get hooked up at www.forfosterdads.com. it will be well worth your time.

  4. Help out a foster family. You guys especially know how hard times can be. Relieve foster parents of their duties and watch their kids if you can. Let them go out on a date night to recharge and refresh.

  5. If you cannot watch the kids, make them a dinner and take it over and drop it off. There's nothing like not having to cook dinner for an evening to be able to spend more time with the kids.

This is not an exhaustive list by any stretch, but it's a good start! Get involved in your community. Advocate for these children. It is 100% worth it. Every little bit helps.

Thank you guys for all you do!
